So you’re buying a new home? Congratulations!
New homes are exciting and you want everything to be perfect. Storage is always going to be an important factor in every house. No doubt you have been in the lovely show home and seen how your new home can look.
Most new homes have the option of Sliding Wardrobe Doors and these will already be installed in the show home. Often the doors will actually be supplied by ourselves at Bedrooms Plus – a quick glance may tell you. We have the highest manufacturing and quality control standards, so if they look poorly made it wasn’t us! Anyway, whether we have supplied the doors or not, we will not have installed them, as the developer’s own joiners will have done this.
What is the one thing that is never in the show home wardrobes? It’s clothes! And why is that? Well the main reason for that is because it is very common for them to build wardrobes that are not quite deep enough for clothes on hangers.
Smaller wardrobes are not noticed, but bigger rooms are!
We always recommend a minimum of 600 mm depth for wardrobes and developers often use 500 – 550mm. It works for shelving but not well for hanging, as coat hangers, particularly the wider ones, will hit along the back of sliding doors. Expensive dresses etc. can even catch on the back of the doors and nobody wants that.
Now size is an important factor, but price is also something to look out for. The developers will charge huge sums for something that can be done for little expense. Yes, it would mean that you move in and have new wardrobes, but with the right planning you can have your new wardrobes done on the day you get the keys. To do this you need to have understanding developers who will allow you access to take measurements.
There are huge savings to be had by ordering your doors from ourselves and all we need is the width and height of the space. Our sliding doors can be installed in under an hour in many cases. Another key issue is the limitation on design. Your builders will have maybe 3 or 4 designs to choose from. We are UK manufacturers so we have every colour and every design variation you can think of in most cases. We can even offer you printed glass if you really want!
In most cases, you will have the choice of no wardrobes or a fitted wardrobe from your builder. A fitted wardrobe will be one shelf along the top and a hanging rail. This is just a poor use of space as we talk about in our other posts, so why not use one of our shelving units on one side and then some hanging bars? Think about the difference in having 5 sets of shelves in your new wardrobe. You will appreciate it when you are desperate to get all the boxes unpacked and get your house looking lovely.
